McDonald’s lets customers pay with love

February.03.2015 0 Comments

McDonald’s restaurants across the US are adding a new payment method for a two-week promotion, letting customers pay for their orders with “random acts of loving” such as giving out high fives and hugs, taking selfies, calling family members, dancing and blowing kisses.

The Pay with Lovin’ campaign will be available in participating restaurants from 6am until 6pm until Valentine’s Day on February 14. Participants — referred to as “unofficial winners” until they’ve completed the challenge — will be chosen by store staff based upon “random, predetermined times.”

“The unofficial winner will be notified by the Lovin’ Lead that they are an unofficial winner after placing an order at the counter or if the unofficial winner begins to leave the restaurant without placing an order at the counter,” the fast food chain says.

An ad shown during yesterday’s Super Bowl shows how the Pay with Lovin’ campaign works in-store:

“Once notified by the Lovin’ Lead that they are an unofficial winner, the Lovin’ Lead will ask the participant to execute a random act of Lovin’. Lovin’ Acts will be designated by the Lovin’ Lead and may include things like fist bumping the Lovin’ Lead, calling a loved one, telling the Lovin’ Lead what the participant loves about their significant other, blowing a kiss or other general sentiment or Lovin’ Act.”

“Upon the completion of a Lovin’ Act by an unofficial winner and verification of any eligibility requirements of the Lovin’ Lead’s satisfaction, the unofficial winner will be deemed an official winner of one prize,” the company adds.

“If the official winner has already placed an order at the counter at the time they are notified they are an unofficial winner, the Lovin’ Lead will award the prize by processing the official winner’s order so that no monetary payment is required to complete the register transaction.”
