A new payments service has launched in France that will let its subscribers make online payments via Twitter, for free.

The service is called S-Money. Using the S-Money iOS or Android app, users can link their credit cards and phone numbers with their Twitter accounts so that they can authorize one-tweet payments on the platform.

Individuals can make payments to other individuals (€ 250 cap) or organisations (€ 500 cap).

The are a number of use cases for S-Money. However, considering that users have to pay by public tweets (no DMs), it would appear the service primarily intended for transparently conducting public fundraising projects, the likes of which became very popular a few years back on Nigerian Twitter.

All the authorisation magic is performed using Twitter’s publicly available API documentation to authorize the payments — S-Money has no official affiliation with Twitter. As far as I’m concerned, this is a Mobile money win. It’d be cool to have a service like this within the region.
