New research has shown that the popularity of contactless payments in Bulgaria significantly increased in 2014.
According to data from UniCredit Bulbank, consumers are growing more confident in using contactless technology, so much so that the total amount of money spent this way rose by 28% last year alone. Additionally, the number of transactions via contactless cards increased by 33% during this period in Bulgaria.
Based on these statistics, it is predicted that Bulgarian banks will invest further in the development of their contactless services to appeal to its tech-savvy customers. Furthermore, UniCredit Bulbank’s forecast also identified new devices such as smart watches and bracelets as areas for growth over the coming year, as consumers grow keener to experiment with new ways to pay.
