Alibaba’s marketplace AliExpress has positioned itself on top of the Brazilian e-commerce market, reveal latest figures by Ibope E-Commerce, a business unit of the Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics that analyses e-commerce.
According to a report cited by daily newspaper Estado de São Paulo and published by Macauhub.com.mo , AliExpress lead the way in terms of number of transactions. However, its revenue was lower than that of competitors Americanas.com and Submarino.com-subsidiaries of the B2W group- because the average purchase value on AliExpress is much lower.
Ibope E-Commerce suggests that AliExpress’s turnover in Brazil reached 330mn reais in the third quarter of 2014. Ibope’s president, Alexandre Crivellaro, said the expansion of Chinese sites to Brazil intensified in 2014.
